The 2008 boy’s and girl’s Seawolves cross country season is already in full swing. There are 13 boys representing the 2nd year of the cross country team’s existence. We are excited to introduce the 1st season of our girls cross country program at Pacifica Christian.

The Seawolves team will succeed in their preparation, in their discipline, commitment, hard work and self-sacrifice; they will be winners regardless of what the results record at the end of the race.   These young runners are able to deepen their bond, support each other, achieve high levels of fitness, and push through mental barriers and physical pain they have the potential of stacking up against their competition.  This is a young team which brings Pacifica Christian cross country an abundance of potential for the season and for the years ahead.

The 2008 squad has an addition of 2 new faces.  These two girls, Miranda Dominguez-Junior and Molly Morgen-Sophomore, decided to join the team this year and will be part of the founding members of the girls’ squad.

The freshman class is comprised of 14 courageous boys & girls, all of whom have the potential to have an immediate impact on the team.  Welcome Krystal Allen, Billy Anderson, Alex Arnold, Nadav Ben-Dayan, Shane Bradley, Rachel Brand-team captain, Alessia Diaz, Lauren Lindo, Zack McMillian, Erika Polanco and Timothy Vaughn. These runners have something to prove as they contribute to a team that is already blossoming under the tutelage of head coach Heather Smith.

2008 freshman to lookout for….Billy Anderson, Timothy Vaughn and Zach McMillan will prove that they belong in this sport and will shock many on the courses we conquer. Rachel Brand had great summer training and brings in leadership and perseverance. She is one to look out for in the near future.

It will be up to the returning veteran runners to set the pace and help guide the new runners through their first high school competitive season.  The team will look to junior Anthony Dominguez, the team captain, to provide key leadership for the squad.   Sophomore, team captain Adam Velasco, Simon Packman and Kevin Bobak are now coming into their own as distance runners and will have a significant impact on what the squad is able to accomplish this season.   Expect to see big gains in their performances this season. With the continued development of the returning veteran runners and the addition of a talented freshman class, 2008 should be an exciting season to watch unfold.

This year’s cross country team words of wisdom…..If you’re serious about defeating temptation you must manage your mind and monitor your media intake. The wisest man who ever lived warned, “Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts” (Proverbs 4:23 TEV).

Girls' Volleyball Preview

Our lady Seawolves are gearing up for another exciting and historic year.  With almost the entire team returning and a large number of girls having played club volleyball, our girls are looking to be a dominant force in volleyball in Southern Section division 5.

We have added the Redondo Tournament to our schedule which hails the best teams from all around Southern California.  On top of this we have added games against some of the better teams on the westside, including Milken and Lighthouse.

Last year our girls made it to the quarter finals of CIF, but we hope to improve with the ultimate goal of winning our CIF division.  Please pray that our team stays healthy, unified and focused throughout this season.

Come support us whenever you can by checking the athletic calendar, which should be up to date on a daily basis.  All maps and directions can be printed from this site as well. Looking forward to seeing all of you and sharing with you an amazing season.

The Year In Review

In only its third year in existence, second year of varsity sports and first year of league competition, the Seawolves have exceeded all expectations.

With four league championships, a quarterfinal finish for the girls' volleyball team in the CIF playoffs, many athletes on all-league and tournament teams, and two All-CIF awards, the bar has been set for future teams and athletes at Pacifica.

The year got off to a big start as the newly formed boys' cross country team, led by Anthony Dominguez, claimed Pacifica's first league championship. In addition to Anthony's 1st team all-league award, Ryan Cooper and Joe Devine were named to the 2nd team. Even more dominant was the girls' volleyball team, who mowed through the Mulholland League undefeated to claim the title. The girls, led by league co-MVP Alex Gearin and 1st team all-league players Gena Heger and Alijah Mulitauopele, went deep into the CIF playoffs before finally falling in the quarterfinals.

In the Winter, the boys shocked the Mulholland League by going 13-1 and claiming a share of the league championship. David Hammer was named co-MVP and received 2nd team All-CIF honors, while leading scorer Derek Williams and leading rebounder Cameron Bell were named to the all-league 1st team. The girls' hoopsters, though hit hard by injuries, played well throughout the season, with Gena Heger and Christina Butler receiving all-league recognition.

In the Spring, Ryan Cooper claimed the Mulholland League individual golf title, with the team claiming 2nd place. The track and field team finished its first year of competition with the 4x400 team of Edwin Gonzalez, Anthony Banda, Anthony Dominguez and Joe Devine qualifying for the CIF prelims, along with Joe Devine in the individual 400 meters. The boys' volleyball team did not drop a single game in league play in capturing the crown, won the silver division championship at the Viewpoint tournament, and qualified for the CIF playoffs. Though the league did not publish all-league teams for the boys, numerous players would have likely received honors. Middle blocker David Hammer was named to the All-CIF 3rd team.

An incredible year for Pacifica athletics, and our athletes are already hard at work this summer preparing for next year.

LEADER OF THE PACK

DAVID HAMMER
ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

The PCH athlete of the month for June is boys' volleyball junior captain David Hammer.

David led the volleyball team to the Mulholland League championship and into the CIF playoffs. He also made the all-tournament team at the Chadwick tournament and was recently named 3rd team All-CIF for Division V.

David has shown an increasing ability to lead the team both in the stat sheet and as a person of character.

Congratulations David!

Sports Preview - 2008/2009

After a very successful 2007-2008 sports year, the Seawolves will look to build on the momentum developed in the first three years of athletic competition.

In the Fall, the girls' volleyball team will be looking to repeat as Mulholland League champions and improve on a quarterfinal finish in the CIF playoffs. Returning almost the entire team, and with several new players joining the roster, the girls look to be a dominant force in CIF play. The cross country team will also look to defend its league championship.

The Winter will bring the inaugural seasons for boys' and girls' soccer, along with the return of the Mulholland champion boys' basketball team, which will return its three leading scorers and will debut a strong freshman class led by JR Walker and Zach McMillan. The girls' basketball team will be looking forward to the return of Katrina Heger to the court.

The Spring will bring track & field, boys' golf, and the return of the boy's volleyball team, which will be looking to repeat as league champions.
